Résumé of Prof. Dr. Yaseen T. Mustafa

Professor Yaseen Taha Mustafa is a renowned authority in Applied Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). His illustrious academic career commenced at the University of Mosul, Iraq, where he completed a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics at the College of Computer Science and Mathematics in 1996, showcasing early promise in his field. In 2000, Prof. Mustafa embarked on a research-focused career. He served as an assistant researcher in the Department of Mathematics at the College of Science, University of Duhok, in the Kurdistan region of Iraq, a role he held until 2003. This period marked the beginning of his deep engagement with academia, culminating in a Master of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Duhok in 2005. Prof. Mustafa's growing expertise in mathematics and its applications led him to a lecturing role at the University of Duhok's Department of Mathematics, College of Education, from 2005 to 2008. His academic journey reached a pivotal point with the completion of his Ph.D. at the prestigious Department of Earth Observation Science, Faculty of Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation at the University of Twente (ITC), Enschede, The Netherlands, in 2012. During his doctoral studies, Prof. Mustafa distinguished himself through significant contributions to his field. He authored four peer-reviewed papers in ISI-indexed journals and was an active participant in three international conferences. His academic excellence was recognized with the Best Student Paper Award at the 2011 ASPRS conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Following his Ph.D., Prof. Mustafa's career trajectory soared. From 2013 to 2016, he served as the director of the ICT Center at the University of Zakho, Kurdistan Region-Iraq. Between 2016 and 2023, he further extended his leadership and academic influence as the Vice President for Scientific and Postgraduate Affairs at the same university. Currently, he heads the Applied Remote Sensing and GIS Center at the University of Zakho, continuing his influential work in the field. Prof. Mustafa's research interests are diverse and influential, spanning remote sensing, GIS, spatial statistics, and contextual image analysis. He is particularly adept at integrating mathematical and statistical tools, including machine learning and Bayesian networks, into his research. This approach exemplifies his commitment to advancing the boundaries of his field.
